Mark and Shannon both hail from Toledo, Ohio but didn't meet until working the same job in Pittsburgh. While talking about music and past shows they both saw in Detroit, they decided to get together in July 2001 and experiment with the accordion-guitar combination. Karen met Shannon when he applied at the bike shop she was managing, and although he didn't get hired at first, he eventually started working there and the conversation inevitably turned to music. Karen was persuaded to revive her dusty set as soon as she left the bike shop in November of 2001, and the experiment expanded into a three-piece collaboration.
After trying out a few bass players and a couple of names, we are what we are... Aydin.
Our first recording Space Affects the Spectator is out now (2005); we started this in February of 2004, and after some trials and tribulations (see News page) we're very glad it's done. It was recorded, mixed and mastered by Paul Ferraro at Sonic Kitchen Studios in Pittsburgh, whose total patience and dedication resulted in a recording just like we envisioned years ago. The lessons we learned will be applied to our next recording (also to be done by Paul).
